The latest technology at the service of wildlife tracking now available in India.

ElephanTTrackinG is the first and only GPS tracking system for elephants made in India by elephant people for elephant people. Designed by the Aane Mane Foundation (Bangalore) in exclusive collaboration with GeoNative (France) and the Centre for Ecological Sciences (Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore), ElephanTTrackinG includes the latest technology available today.

— The collars are designed based on over 10 years experience in real conditions on the field, manufactured in Bangalore with the latest GPS transmitter that allows real-time tracking and 2-way communication.

— The interface is accessible by registered members on their private accounts from any Internet connected computer or your smartphone thanks to a dedicated application to be downloaded. It features many options that allow you to design and manage autonomously your monitoring program.

ElephanTTrackinG was born from the need to develop and share a real-time tracking system for elephants made in India on a non-profit basis. For us, GPS collars represent an indispensable tool to study the movements of wild elephants. It can be used as an early warning system in the mitigation of Human-Elephant Conflict, to save human lives and prevent damages to crops, but also as a modern alternative to the historical practice of chaining tamed elephants, so that they may free-range in their natural habitat.

Our aim is to provide top technology at the lowest possible price with the foremost concern for wildlife conservation. We designed ElephanTTrackinG with the highest requirements and we are its first users. So download the PDF file, write to us and join the ElephanTTrackinG community. You can also purchase and donate a collar to an organization working with elephants.

New features of the ElephanTTrackinG collars : Real-time tracking and 2-way communication.

— The collars are sturdy and harmless, with a belt principally made of natural rubber that causes no skin abrasion.

— The collars include an electronic module or ‘tracker’ and a counterweight.

— The tracker is protected against strong shocks and water by a double shell and a double waterproofing seal (IPX7).

— The tracker acquires the GPS satellite position and forwards it within seconds to the server using the local GSM network (2G, 3G, 4G).

— The tracker allows 2-way communication so you can change the configuration remotely at any time from 1 position per minute to 1 position per 24h.

— In case of failed connection, the tracker stores the positions (up to 20,000) and sends them at the next connection.

— The counterweight that keeps the tracker on top is made of chromium coated steel, specially designed so that it can lock the collar without any holes to any size within minutes. You don’t need to measure the neck-girth of the elephant (usually about 2m for an adult female and 3m for a male). Our collars are delivered with a length of 4.5m so as to fit the largest elephant and the excess is cut once fitted.

— The weight of one elephant collar is +/- 10kg, that is only 0.3 to 0.4% of the average bodyweight of an adult elephant. It varies according to neck-girth (and the length of the belt), proportionally to the size of the animal.

— The tracker is powered by an imported 10-year life Lithium battery pack with the best performance available today.

— The battery level loses about 3% per year when the tracker is on stand-by mode and 10-20% per year with 4-6 positions per day. The actual life of the tracker depends on the number of transmissions per day, the level of the GSM signal, the temperature and physical damages to the collar.

— The battery level is monitored remotely every day and visible on the interface and the mobile app, so you can adjust your configuration and save the life of the battery according to the specifications of your monitoring program and during the storage periods.

— Manufacture and maintenance of the collars are undertaken in Bangalore.

— Free technical support is available online by email.

— Technical assistance in the field is available upon request.

Pricing policy :

Our prime motive is the conservation of wildlife and in our view, it is not a business nor an industry. With this non-profit philosophy, we have attempted to price the ElephanTTrackinG equipment and services at the lowest possible so that it can be used widely in India and South Asia by all of you who share the same concerns that guide us. However, since our products and services are sourced from various industries that do not all share our principles and motives, the more people will join us and use the system, the better we can control prices.

Our prices also depend on the evolution of foreign exchange rate and taxes that affect the cost of imported parts, and the number of collars per order. By joining ElephanTTrackinG, you not only acquire an exceptional tool but you also contribute to this effort.

Prepare your ElephanTTrackinG program :

— The first step is to study with the help of a smartphone the availability of GSM network in the area where you plan to use the collars. This is crucial to decide which technology you need and which operator to select.

— The price of one elephant GPS collar is posted on our website and updated from time to time. Applicable sales taxes are to be added (18% GST in India). Contact us for a formal quotation.

— Payment is to be made in full at the time of order, by bank transfer.

— For each collar, you need to pay a yearly service charge (see current prices) for your 24h/24 access to the server, data processing, access to the mobile app, update of the interface and app, storage and protection of your data in highly secured data centers.

— For each collar, you also need a SIM card (Post paid, Nano size, SMS, Data) to be chosen among the mobile operators with the best network in the area where you plan to use the collar. If you are ordering from outside India, ensure that the SIM cards allow international roaming for the initial configuration and tests of your collars in Bangalore. (To be removed after delivery)

Mobile data is billed per volume of data transmitted, not by time. Each transmission represents a very small volume of data and the cost is also low. As an example, the average amount billed by BSNL in India for one collar is around Rs 200-250 per month.

— Once activated, send us your SIM cards along with the corresponding APN (Access Point Name). We will insert them in the trackers, then configure, test and seal the trackers for waterproofing purposes. This phase is included in the initial cost of the collars.

— The shipping of the collars will be at your charge, calculated according to your location and the mode of transportation (road, air, sea).

— Fitting the collar and using the website are really simple. We will send you the Instruction Manual and provide free online assistance. However, if you need us to intervene in the field for technical or training purposes, write to us and let’s discuss it.

Conditions of sale / Liability / Storage Recommendations / Warning :

Prices are subject to change. For exact costs, please ask for a quotation.

Payment in full and your activated SIM cards are required at the time of order. All our collars are fully tested with your SIM cards and can be monitored online from the first activation and through delivery.

However, ElephanTTrackinG disclaims any liability after delivery, especially in case of inadequate storage conditions (absence of GSM/GPS signal for long periods, overheating, extreme shocks, etc), mishandling (overuse of battery with Tracking While Moving mode, SIM card failure, etc), or accidental damages before or during deployment of the collars.

We can service and repair your collars in Bangalore, so that only the damaged parts and replacement charges are billed (plus shipping). You will be sent a quotation to be approved beforehand.

STORAGE RECOMMENDATIONS: ElephanTTrackinG collars need both GPS and GSM signal (avoid metal and concrete barriers). Always store the collars at moderate temperature (max. 30°C/86°F) in a dry ventilated place, with the module oriented towards the sky near a window or under a veranda but not under direct sunshine. Check that GSM signal is available and the SIM card is active.
